Sephora Announces Program For Women-Owned Beauty Startups

Beauty retailer Sephora announced the Sephora Accelerate program to help support beauty startups established by women entrepreneurs. Part of the company’s Sephora Stands social impact initiative, the program aims to inspire confidence and fearlessness among women. With data showing women entrepreneurs do not have the same access to funding, connections, or business instructions as their male counterparts, Sephora Accelerate was designed to build a community of female business founders in all areas of the beauty industry. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply for one of up to 10 spots in the year-long program. Sephora Accelerate fellows will participate in a boot camp at the company’s San Francisco headquarters to learn the necessary skills to run and build their businesses.

Seven Scent secured halal certification for all of its lines of fragrances. To achieve this, the company had to go through an extensive audit of its manufacturing process by The Halal Trust. Old Spice Launches Twitter Campaign With Future Selves Asking Consumers' Questions

Procter & Gamble’s men’s grooming brand Old Spice launched a social media campaign on Twitter. Created by Wieden + Kennedy, the Twitter campaign began with a post asking consumers what they would like to ask their future self. Consumers who replied to the tweet received an answer from a Twitter account created by the brand for their “future selves.”

South Korea Makes Presence Felt In World Skincare Market

South Korea exported more than $2.64 billion of cosmetics products in 2015, compared with $1 billion in 2012 and $1.91 billion in 2014, according to the Korea Customs Service. Small companies, established by young Americans of Korean ancestry, helped drive the growth in the market for Korean skincare products in the United States, one of the biggest export markets. Procter & Gamble's India Business Grow 2 Percent In October-December Quarter

Procter & Gamble saw its business in India grew 2 percent in the quarter October-December 2015. P&G’s move to exit several low-margin market segments and focus on more profitable sectors has affected its revenue performance. Its three companies in India posted a combined revenue of Rs 10,347.7 crore for the year 2014-2015, a 12.7 percent growth compared with 15 percent posted in the previous year.

Unilever Spends 24 Percent Of Ad Budget On Digital Marketing In 2015

Unilever’s spending on digital media marketing grew to 24 percent of its global advertising budget in 2015, according to the company’s chief marketing and communications officer Keith Weed. In 2014, the company spent 20 percent of its total advertising budget on digital media. In digitally advanced markets, such as the United States and China, the company spends almost 50 percent of its advertising budget on digital platforms. Unilever, which recently announced its move to “zero-based budgeting” for its marketing, is the second-biggest spender on advertising worldwide, behind its rival Procter & Gamble, according to Adbrands.net.

Procter & Gamble was voted the best company to work for in Africa, according to a survey of employees in the continent conducted by recruitment specialist firm Global Career Company in cooperation with Towers Watson. Covering all of the region’s 54 markets, the survey, which was published in the January 2016 issue of the African Business magazine, included questions focused on 29 global, local, and pan-African factors used to “define a great employer.” Also, respondents were asked which companies they would be most interested in working for.

Cuba’s Less Restrictive Foreign Investment Law Draws Unilever Back After Four Years

Unilever is partnering with Cuba’s state-owned company Intersuchel S.A. to build a personal care and homecare products factory in the Mariel Special Development Zone. The joint venture, Unilever-Suchel S.A., will manufacture shampoo, deodorant, detergent, soap and toothpaste. Unilever will take a 60 percent stake in the venture, and Intersuchel will hold 40 percent. The $35 million factory is expected to generate 300 direct jobs when it opens in 2017. Unilever left Cuba in 2012, but now feels the country’s 2014 foreign investment law makes it more attractive to expand there.

Brazil's Online Retail Market Forecast To Reach $40.8 Billion By 2019, Market Analysts Say

Online sales in Brazil are forecast to rise from $17.8 billion in 2014 to $40.8 billion by 2019, according to data presented by Costs Advogados partner Marcio Cots at a panel presentation hosted by the Brazilian American Chamber of Commerce in New York City. According to AD. Dialeto founding partner Leonardo Cid Ferreira, Brazilian consumers use online resources and social media to gather information, buy, and keep up with fashion and beauty trends. Consumers use e-commerce for “easy replenishment,” lower prices, and convenience of delivery.

Women Spend More Time On Personal Grooming Than Men Do, Study Reveals

Women worldwide on average spend almost five hours each week on personal grooming, while men spend just over three hours, according to GfK. Data from the German market research firm revealed 60 percent of respondents said their main reason for trying to look their best is “to feel good about themselves,” with 44 percent saying “making a good impression on people they meet for the first time” as their main reason, and 40 percent citing “setting a good example for their children.” Italians spend more than five and a half hours per week on average, while Chinese spend less than three hours per week.
