Four Factors Drive Packaging Trends In Japan's Personal Care Market

Four factors are driving packaging trends in Japan's personal care products industry, according to CPS International packaging expert Andrew Streeter and Cosmeworks marketing director Naoki Gomi Yoshida. According to Yoshida, these are the country's strict packaging environmental laws, aging population, Kaizen or desire for constant improvement, and demographics. Yoshida also said the current trends consist of four areas: refillable technologies; diversity in single package platforms; powder and crème; and mobility.

Discount retailer Aldi said it will launch its Lacura Skin Science Icellage line of anti-aging skincare products in Australia. Each of the four products included in the range costs less than $20, with each item containing ingredients found in high-end skincare products. Based on the cells of an Alpine flower that survived the Ice Age, the products will be available as part of the retailer's Special Buys promotion.

FDA's Ban On Antibacterial Soaps Affects Procter & Gamble

Procter & Gamble Co., along with other manufacturers, have to reformulate their antibacterial soaps or stop selling them and running related advertising, after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced a ban on harmful ingredients. According to the FDA, the rule is expected to affect about 2,100 products, or 40 percent of soaps and body washes in the market. FDA said the ban covers consumer products with one or more of 19 active ingredients. Among the most commonly used chemicals are triclosan, in liquid soap, and triclocarban, which is used in bar soap.
