Unilever Seeks Patent For Technology Developed To Prolong Fragrance Release

January 27, 2016: 12:00 AM EST
Unilever applied for a U.S. patent for a technology it claims is designed to prolong fragrance release from perfumes and personal care products. According to details of the patent application, the use of tricyclo-decane amide prevents the fast volatilization of the highly volatile fragrance components when the personal care composition is applied to skin or hair. Also, the inventors theorized that the “cage” structure of the amides may interact specifically with highly volatile fragrances to reduce their headspace vapor pressure, prolonging their release.
